Carisbrooke Castle was a royal prison to Charles I and today is famous for its donkeys. When you visit you can enjoy the birds-eye view from the castle keep and walk around the battlements, taking in the stunning views of the Edwardian-style Princess Beatrice Garden. There are daily demonstrations of the donkeys working the 16th century treadwheel, or see history brought to life with the fun and dramatic film of the castle. You can even dress up as a soldier, and experiment with armour and discover how to fire cannons. You can also visit the castle chapel where you can quietly reflect on the day.
